Unspoken Rules of the Office by Sue Morem, author, syndicated columnist and TV guestThursday, September 17, 2009There are unspoken expectations in every workplace; every office has its own protocols, both explicit and implied. While written protocol is easy enough to comprehend, implied protocol is a potential booby-trap for many people. In the presentation, you’ll learn what your employer wants you to know, but is too uncomfortable to say outright. Topics covered will include:
• First impressions
• Inappropriate workplace attire
• Gender differences and realities
• Office romance
• Mixing work and play
• Dealing with difficult people
• Adapting to change, even when it is affecting you
• The office “family”
• Gossip
Sue has created, and been featured in, nine internationally distributed training videos. She has authored five books, and has been writing a weekly workplace advice column for over 15 years.

Getting and Keeping a Great Job During a Recession by Joanne Meehl, MS, UCDCThursday, February 19, 2009Career coach and author Joanne Meehl will discuss how to turn tough economic times into your window of opportunity, how to adjust your resume for a more competitive environment and how to prevent being on the layoff list.
Joanne will also talk about her proprietary process called the Value-Based Job Search©, and how critical it is in our current economic environment to show your value to a potential employer. When people follow her method, they score more interviews and land a great new job sooner, even in these tough times.
After attending this meeting, you will look at your own job search approach, especially your resume, very differently than you do now, and make it a lot stronger. Whether or not you are in job search or just getting ready for a search, you will leave with lots of information that will help you.
Joanne was a recent guest on KSTP/Channel 5’s Twin Cities Live and KARE11’s News@4 where she was interviewed about her book and today’s job searching.
Joanne is the author of The Resume Queen’s Job Search Thesaurus and Career Guide and will have her book available for sale at the chapter meeting.
